Literary scenes: Part 3

Okay, we'll wrap up this "Literary" series with some less-directly-related items:

The Sherlock Holmes pub. It's nowhere near 221b Baker Street. It's around the corner from the National Gallery. Lots of Holmes memorabilia as wall decorations. They serve an ale named after SH.

The Conan Doyle pub. It's in Edinburgh, not London. Near it, across the street (actually about where this shot is taken from) stands a pretty good statue of Sherlock. The walls of the pub are covered with interesting Holmes-related memorabilia, photos, and clippings.

The Betsey Trotwood pub. She was David Copperfield's aunt in the Dickens novel. We were surprised to find that it is a bluegrass music-oriented pub. The connection seems unclear to us. We'll have to look it up.

Greg browsing at a used-book stall in the Market Square in Cambridge. The volume he his holding is the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles ("In this year So-and-so, Northumbrian king, was slain"). Greg actually bought this book. The proprietor was pleased and not a little surprised.
